NUIG Rugby Youth Academy, in association with NUIG Women’s rugby, held an open day in Dangan on Saturday to mark the commencement of training for NUIG Girls Rugby. Youth Academy coaches Jim Cullen and Neil Keaveney were present on the day as well as Community Rugby Officer Wendy Hickey. The day was an opportunity for girls interested in taking part to try out their rugby skills and learn from some of NUIG women’s teams rising stars.
Training will be held every Wednesday from 6-7pm at NUIG Sports Grounds, Dangan, commencing this week on September 26th.The girls team will cater for all girls under the age of 15 (that is, for players born in 1998, 1999, and 2000) paving the way for NUIG Women’s Rugby future teams.
We would like to invite any girls interested in playing to come to training and try out one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
Wendy Hickey, Community Rugby Officer, said: “The Connacht branch is very excited by NUIG’s further participation in Girls Rugby. U15s is such an important age for the development of Female players, this is also a great opportunity for girls to get together and try something new and in this case a sport that will even be part of the 2016 Olympics”
