NUIG found their away form with a win away to Carrick on Sunday, 23rd January to record their third win in this season’s Connacht League.
Tries from captain Alison Nolan, new recruit Shannon Gelson, and a hat-trick from Edel Siney ensured a bonus point victory. Vice-captain Louise Kelly added a conversion.
Carrick started with great intent, crossing the whitewash after an impressive break from the wing, and came close to adding to their 5 points though back-rower Kerri-Lee Murray was able to close down the attack with a fine chasing tackle.
Where NUIG notched up points, they also notched up infringements and were consistently penalised throughout the second half for offsides and high tackles. Such ill-discipline will have to be countered before the next round of the league, however, given the number of new caps and the limited time the new-look squad has had together, last year’s finalists can be happy with the result.
